Image Of Our Lady Of Emmitsburg

I have been retired from SWIFT for over 5 years now. It does not seem possible but it has been that long. About a year or so after I retired I became a mobile notary public doing mortgage closings for people re-financing their homes at lower interest rates. When I started doing this I thought I would just do one here and there. I had no idea how busy I would become doing these closings. It became so busy that I no longer feel retired but sometimes busier than I ever was at SWIFT.

Late in the day I received a phone call from one of the closings companies asking if I could do a closing that evening at 7 PM in Rhodesville, Virginia. Rhodesville is about 25 miles from my home. I initially said no because I really was not in the mood to travel there on such short notice. The mortgage agent said they really needed a notary to go and I decided that I would do it. I received the mortgage documents via email and printed them out and drove to the borrowers home in Rhodesville.

When I arrived I instantly knew they were Catholic because of a statue of Mary in the garden and a Divine Mercy image in the kitchen when I walked in. We introduced ourselves. They were  <name withheld>. We sat down to sign and notarize all of the mortgage documents. We were about two thirds the way through the package when the husband said he was a little warm and stood up and took off a flannel shirt he was wearing. I could not believe my eyes when I saw a tattoo of Our Lady of Emmitsburg on his arm. I said “My goodness, that’s Our Lady of Emmitsburg”. They were just as stunned as I was. We finished the closing and sat for a long time afterwards discussing Our Lady of Emmitsburg.
